Mission Statement
The mission of the School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is to provide a comprehensive education that will prepare students to become sonographers. The program is structured to provide intellectual stimulation and learning in the didactic and clinical settings using psychomotor, affective and cognitive domains. It is necessary to prepare students to assume the responsibilities of a sonographer, provide quality patient care and to contribute to their profession by a commitment to professional organizations and life long learning. These beliefs are the foundation of the sonography profession and are realized through commitment to the education of sonographers in the community.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Ultrasound (also called sonography) is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. The high-frequency sound waves are transmitted to the area of interest and the returning echoes recorded. This type of procedure is often referred to as a sonogram or ultrasound scan.
Sonography can be used to examine many parts of the body, such as the abdomen, breasts, female reproductive system, prostate, heart and blood vessels and more. In obstetrics ultrasound is used to study the age, number, and location of the fetus, as well as to examine the fetus for birth defects or other potential problems. In the abdomen, it is used to detect abnormalities such as gallstones or liver disease. Heart disease can be identified through cardiac ultrasound.
Sonography is increasingly being used in the detection and treatment of heart disease, heart attacks and vascular disease that can lead to stroke. It is also used to guide fine-needle tissue biopsy to assist in taking a sample of cells from an organ for lab testing (for example, a test for cancer in breast tissue). Diagnostic ultrasound is noninvasive, involves no radiation, and avoids the possible hazards-such as bleeding, infection, or reactions to chemicals-of other diagnostic methods.

Financial Aid Office Services
At the Institute of Allied Medical Professions, we know that the financial aid process can seem a little confusing, particularly if you have never applied for student aid in the past. That’s why our financial aid advisors work with you one-on-one to help you understand financial aid and navigate through the application process. Before you even begin classes, your advisor will meet with you to discuss the various financial aid programs, assist you with your applications, and review the various options available – and of course we’re always here to help you once you start school too.
Financial Aid Eligibility
Financial aid is available to all students who are enrolled at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions and meet the basic eligibility requirements. The term “financial aid” includes grant programs and loan programs. Grant aid is awarded based upon financial need, but student loan programs are available to all eligible students regardless of the student’s financial situation.
Financial Aid Application
The starting point for all financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA application is available on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and our Financial Aid Office will gladly assist you with the on-line application process. Once the application is submitted, it takes two or three days for the school to receive the electronic reply from the US Department of Education. The information contained in this document allows the Institute of Allied Medical Professions to calculate the amount of student aid each student will receive.
Upon completion of the application process, your financial aid advisor at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions will prepare a package of financial aid for you based upon your eligibility and financial need. Your advisor will discuss the timing of aid payments, explain billing and payment procedures, and can advise you about alternative financing sources.
Financial Aid Programs
The Financial Aid Programs available at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions include:
Federal Pell Grant
Eligible students at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions who have not received a Bachelor's degree may receive this grant based on financial need. Federal Pell is a grant that does not need to be repaid. Click here for Information about Federal Pell Grants from the U.S. Department of Education.
Federal Family Education Loan/ Federal Direct Student Loan Program- Stafford Student Loans
All eligible students at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions are able to borrow a traditional “student loan” from the Federal Student Loan Programs. These loans are called Federal Stafford Loans, and the interest on these loans may be subsidized and unsubsidized. Click here for Information about Stafford Loans from the U.S. Department of Education.
Federal Family Education Loan/ Federal Direct Student Loan Program– Parent PLUS Loans
The parents of dependent students at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions are generally able to borrow a parent PLUS loan from the Federal Student Loan Program. Parents can borrow up to the full cost of education (minus any other aid received). Click here for Information about Parent PLUS Loans from the U.S. Department of Education.
Veterans Benefits
Veterans of the Armed Services are generally eligible for educational benefits from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA pays all benefits directly to the veteran/student, not to the school. The veteran/student must apply for benefits directly with the VA, and the Institute of Allied Medical Professions will certify the student’s enrollment and academic progress to the VA each trimester. The VA makes monthly payments to the student based upon that certification.
Veterans with a service-connected disability and children/dependents of veterans who were disabled or killed in the line of duty may be eligible for even more generous benefits. For more information about VA educational benefits, please contact the VA at 1-888-GI BILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) or visit their website at: VA Educational Benefits webpage.
Social Security Survivor's Benefits: Check with your local Social Security Office for information on eligibility and benefits.
State Vocational Rehabilitation Educational Programs: Educational programs for persons with disabilities vary from State to State. Programs are also available for the vocational rehabilitation of former prisoners in some States. Check with your State's vocational rehabilitation office.
Bureau of Indian Affairs: Registered members of a Native American tribal group may be entitled to educational benefits. Request information on grants and/or loans from your tribal headquarters or education office. Information is also available from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Washington, D.C. 20245.
State Unemployment/Displaced Worker Benefits: Benefits vary from State to State. Contact your State Employment Office for information.
Canadian Student Loans: Loans are available for Canadian citizens/legal residents. Programs may vary from Province to Province. Contact the Student Aid Office in your Province for more information.
Flexible Institute of Allied Medical Professions Payment Plans:
Students who do not qualify for sufficient financial assistance will appreciate our flexible payment schedules. Contact the Financial Aid Office at your campus and speak with your advisor to discuss how we can work with you today!

Application Deadline
The Institute of Allied Medical Professions works on a "Rolling Admission" system. This means that students may apply to the program at any time during the year. Students wishing to receive financial aid should apply at least thirty days in advance of starting classes. Students who apply later will still receive consideration, but may be required to pay their tuition and other charges up-front and be reimbursed by late-arriving financial aid.
Students seeking more detailed information about financial aid, including all of the above programs, should contact the Institute of Allied Medical Professions Financial Aid Office at their campus.

Financial Aid - How to Apply
We know that the financial aid process can seem intimidating, but our friendly financial aid staff can help you at any step of the process. Just give us a call at your campus if you have any questions. We are here to help!
FAFSA Application: The first step in the financial aid application process is the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (also known as the FAFSA). This process can be completed quickly and easily on the United States Department of Education's website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The information that you provide on this application will allow us to determine your eligibility for Federal Pell Grants and federal student loans. Be sure to list IAMP as your school choice when completing the form, as this will send your eligibility results directly to the financial aid office.
Deadlines: You should complete your FAFSA at least thirty days before you begin classes. We cannot process any financial aid for you until we have received your data from the FAFSA processor. If you have not applied before school, please come and talk to us in the financial aid office as soon as you start school. The absolute deadline to file the FAFSA is a few weeks before you finish school, because we must receive your FAFSA data while you are still in school in order to process your financial aid.
The Verification Process: About one-third of all FAFSA applications are selected for a review process called "verification". If your aplication is selected, you will be asked to provide copies of your income tax returns and other income and asset information, and for similar information from your parent(s) if you are a dependent student. We will let you know if you are selected for verification and give you a list of the necessary items.
Deadlines: We cannot process any federal financial aid for you until all documents are submitted and reviewed. Sometimes this process results in the need for the school to send corrections to your FAFSA data, and this can add a few days to the processing time. Therefore, it is important to submit any requested documents as soon as possible. There are also federal verification deadlines that give us only a short time after you complete your program or otherwise cease attending to complete the process.
The Financial Aid Awarding Process: Upon completion of the application and verification processes, your financial aid advisor will prepare a package of financial aid for you based upon your eligibility and financial need as determined by your FAFSA application. Your advisor will also discuss the timing of aid payments, explain billing and payment procedures, and can advise you about alternative financing sources.
Student Loan Entrance/Exit Interviews: If you are planning to use a Federal Stafford Student Loan and you have not borrowed a student loan before, you will need to complete an "Entrance Interview" before the lender can disburse your money - but don't worry - this "interview" is actually an on-line process to teach you about your rights and responsibilities under the loan programs. You'll complete a similar process (called an "Exit Interview") when you graduate/leave school. Click here to start this on-line process.
The Financial Aid Disbursement (Payment) Process: If your FAFSA application has been processed early and all other paperwork is completed, your first payments of federal financial aid should arrive during the first few weeks of school. If you've never had a student loan before, your first student loan payment will arrive after you have completed thirty days of classes. All federal student aid is paid in two disbursements (two halves), with the second payment arriving after you have reached the mid-point of your training.
All federal grants and loans are paid directly to the school on your behalf, and are used to satisfy any outstanding balance on your account. If there are funds remaining after your balance is paid in full, IAMP will promptly issue an overage check to the student (or the Parent borrower if funds are from a PLUS loan). Parent PLUS borrowers who wish to have any overage amount given directly to the student should contact the Business Office to make arrangements.
Payment of Veterans Benefits: Veterans Educational benefits are generally paid directly to the student each month. If the applications are filed close to the start of school, it may take a month or two for the payments to begin, but back-payments will be made for any delayed monthly payments. Students who are relying on VA benefit payments to pay for costs at IAMP will be set up on a free monthly payment plan with the school to coincide with the VA payments.
Students seeking more detailed information about the financial aid process should contact the Financial Aid Office at your campus.
