Academic Progress - New York

All students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain enrolled and eligible for financial aid at the Institute of Allied Medical Professions (IAMP). Satisfactory Academic Progress is determined by measuring the student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) and the student’s rate of progress toward completion of the academic program. These are outlined below.

Maximum Time Frame in Which To Complete Requirements

Completion of a program must be within a maximum time frame of 1.5 times, or 150% the length of the program. This requirement for rate of progress is to ensure that students are progressing at a rate in which to complete the program within the maximum time frame. Maximum time frame in which to complete requirements ensures the quality of education that students receive at IAMP. It is important that students complete the program within the maximum time frame allotted in order to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Should a student not complete the program in the allotted 1.5 times the length of the program, the student will be referred to the Academic Affairs Committee and may be terminated from the program.  Information on the Academic Affairs Committee can be found in the academic catalog.

Appeal Process for SAP

A student who does not meet the requirements for SAP’s policy, in which case disciplinary action may be taken, shall have the opportunity to present his/her position, either orally or by submission of a written statement. A student who plans to attend the hearing must notify in writing the Chairperson at the Office not less than fifteen days prior to the hearing date. A student who has been academically dismissed may appeal the determination if special or mitigating circumstances exist. Any appeal must be in writing and must be submitted to the Director of Education (or Designate) within 10 days of receiving notification of his/her dismissal. The student should explain what type of circumstances contributed to the academic problem and what plans the student has to eliminate those potential problems in the future. The decision of the Academic Review Committee, which is appointed by the Director of Education, is final and may not be further appealed.

Incomplete Grades

If a student does not complete the required work of a component that is in progress the student may receive a grade of incomplete progress (IP). The method and time for the completion of the work must be agreed upon, in writing, by the student and the instructor. IP work not completed by the end of the agreed upon time period will automatically change to a grade of F.

Warning and Probation

Didactic/Lab focused: See Clinical Internship Policies in the academic catalog. At the end of each quarter after grades have been posted, each student’s CGPA and rate of progress is reviewed to determine whether the student is meeting these requirements.
• Students will be placed on Warning in any quarter in which the CGPA or the rate of progress falls below the values specified in the tables. At the end of the next component (in any given quarter), the student will be removed from Warning and returned to regular status if they meet or exceed the minimum standards, or will be placed on Probation if they continue to fall below the specified values.
• Students on Probation will be evaluated at the end of the following component (in any given quarter). A student who raises their CGPA and rate of progress at or above the minimums will be removed from Probation and returned to regular status.  If a student does not meet the minimum CGPA or rate of progress requirements at the time of evaluation, the student will be dismissed from school.
If at any point it can be determined that it is mathematically impossible for the student to meet the minimum requirements, the student also must be dismissed from the school.  Notification of academic dismissal will be in writing. The Conduct Policy section of the academic catalog describes other circumstances that could lead to student dismissal for non-academic reasons.
As a dismissed student, a tuition refund may be due in accordance with the institution’s refund policy as stated elsewhere in the academic catalog.
During the periods of Warning and Probation, students are considered to be making satisfactory academic progress and remain eligible for financial aid.
Students on Warning and Probation must participate in academic advising as deemed necessary by the institution as a condition of their academic monitoring. Students who fail to comply with these requirements may be subject to dismissal even though their CGPA or rate of progress may be above the dismissal levels.
